How Cute Is My Blog?

I know that there's still a week left in February, but I wanted to change the wallpaper on my blog and the next holiday is a BIG one!

March is a special month in my family. One, my family is Irish. Two, my birthday is in March. And three, my sister's birthday is also in March AND on St. Patrick's Day!!! Lots of reasons to celebrate! (Sidenote: doesn't Sean look like Terri?)

Actually, my mom went into labor with me during my sister's third birthday party. It was on a Saturday, a few days before her "real" birthday. Right in the middle of the party, my parents had to leave for the hospital. Tons of people at the house, presents still had to be open, and the candles still needed to be blown out on the cake. It was a good thing that my mom left when she did, because I was born a half hour later. Family & friends stayed and kept the party going, but I guess my sister was still a little upset. It took a few years for her to forgive me for ruining her party, but now she's my best friend! Every year we celebrate our birthdays together and every year we have shamrocks on our cake (or leprechauns, or rainbows & pots of gold).

Anyway, March is also a month of lots of rain, but towards the end of the month you can start to feel spring in the air. I'm so looking forward to Spring! Happy March (next week)!

Did You Watch It?

I'll admit it. I'm a reality TV junkie. I've been trying to limit my TV viewing, but there's just one show (okay maybe a few) that I just can't give up. I love The Amazing Race! The new season started last night and I actually watched it "live" (as in not waiting for Tivo to record it so we can fast forward through the commercials).

If I wasn't such a big chicken, I'd send in an audition video. I love that these couples get to travel to places that they normally never would have AND THEN they get to do these amazing tasks that the average traveler would never think of doing. Last night, the teams traveled to Switzerland, bungy jumped off a dam, and then had to carry 200 lbs of cheese down a mountain. If you traveled to Switzerland, would you get to do that?

I love this show so much that my husband gave me the Travelocity Gnome two years ago as a one of my Christmas presents. Yep, this little guy sits in my front room by the window. I walk by him every morning and he just makes me smile. This picture was take during Christmas. I don't change his hat for every holiday, just during Christmas.

If you haven't had a chance to watch an episode, I highly recommend it.

Silly BOY!

This is my SON, Sean. I entered this photo in the weekly contest at I Heart Faces. This week's theme is "Silly". Click on over and check out all of the "Silly" photos. They're sure to make you smile!

This photo was taken about three years ago. My mom was fed up with doing her hair everyday and was into her "wig phase". Sean looked at my mom and said, "Grandma, your hair looks longer and poofier than yesterday". She said, "Oh, it's just my new wig" and then proceeded to whip it off her head and throw it in the air! The boys thought that this was the funniest and coolest thing ever. I guess they never knew anyone that actually wore a wig, let alone someone that would whip it off in a mili-second.

Sean asked to try it on. I took one look at him and thought, "oh my God! He looks like my sister"! I had to get a picture. This is what a girl of mine would look like. The picture is silly, but just thinking about the look on my boys face when their Grandma took off her "hair" makes me smile.

And, YES! I did ask Sean for his permission before I posted this.

My First Award!

My friend, J-lo at Almost Famous, bestowed this award to me. Jen was the person that inspired me to start my own blog. She was having such a good time with it, I just had to jump on board. Thanks, J-lo!

Here are the rules:

1. You must link back to the person you received the award from.

2. You have to nominate 10 bloggers who are deserving of this award!

I'm new to blogger land, although I have been known to lurk on a few pages for the past few months. I really don't follow a lot of blogs, except the ones that I have listed on my blog roll. Some of these folks have already received the award, but I'm going to give them the same award anyway, just for fun.

The "When Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade" award goes to:

** Chris at Miltyslot because he's my biggest cheerleader! He supports me in whatever I want to do; no exceptions whatsoever. Now, I'd like to say that I'm the inspiration for his blog. When I started my blog, Chris had lots of ideas ("Kath, you should do this..., or "make your blog look like that"). I so nicely (okay, harshly) suggested that he start his own blog and do whatever he wanted on it! Thus, Miltyslot was born with its first and only entry. Thanks, hon' for putting up with me for 18 years!

** Life with Kaishon - because she seems like such a nice, loving person and mother. I don't know a whole lot about her, but the kids on her pages looks SO HAPPY! She also got me hooked on the I Heart Faces site. It's a website for all levels of photographers to enter their favorite face photos. It's a lot of fun to look at all the creative beautiful photos. Check it out.

**Mitzi at The Mandel 5. I know J-lo already honored you with this award, but I thought that you deserved two! When you think that your life is busy and you just can't fit another thing in...read Mitzi's blog! She is Wonder Woman! I don't know how she packs it all in. Just reading about one of her adventurous days makes me tired. Also, I want to be her when I grow up. She takes the most beautiful photos! I don't know what it is, but she seems to capture the child's personality in every photo. If I could take a photo half as good as Mitzi, I would be one happy girl!

**Jason at The Jason Show. For no other reason other than he makes me laugh! He also seems like the sort of person that you could tell your deepest darkest secrets to and he would never judge.

I just have to get my sister to start a blog. Now, she is FUNNY!!!!!! How 'bout it, Ter?

Ketchup Wars

Two weeks ago, Chris, Brian & I were at Chili’s for lunch. Brian was in a pouty mood because he doesn’t like Chili’s. It’s not my favorite either, but it was convenient while we were running around doing errands. Well, Brian was sitting there and his mood was getting worse and worse. Chris in an attempt to be funny, aims the ketchup bottle at Brian and says (jokingly), “Dude, snap out of your mood, or I’ll squirt this ketchup all over you”. Brian gives the big eye roll (I have no idea where he learned that one from). Then Chris squeezed the ketchup bottle thinking that just a little dribble would drop on the table and thus making Brian laugh. Have you ever noticed how much pressure is really in a full squeezable bottle of ketchup? Let me tell you…a forceful stream of ketchup blasted Brian in the chest all the way across the table. Chris starts busting up, Brian instantly has tears in his eyes, I (at first) started to laugh until I heard someone say, “That dad just shot ketchup all over his kid!!”, then I was mortified that other people saw! I then tried to clean up Brian (of course he was wearing his favorite WHITE shirt); then I turned on Chris and said, “what the hell is wrong with you!!”. At this point he's laughing so hard that he can’t even speak. I grab Brian’s hand and flee for the car. Once Chris composed himself, he apologized to Brian and said that Brian can get him back at any time with no repercussions. It took Brian a few hours to get over the incident and then he started plotting with his brother as to when would be the best time to get Chris back. Life returned to normal.

Flash forward two weeks, we’re having hamburgers at home and actually eating at the dinner table like a picture perfect family (ha!). Chris had a rough day, a sore throat, and he was in a pissy mood (shocking, I know!). During dinner, Brian raises the bottle of ketchup and looks at me and raises his eyebrows (translation: Can I get Dad back now, or are you going to get mad at me if I do?) I mouthed back to him, “later”. Usually when I say “maybe”, or “later” to my kids, I really have no intention of allowing them to do what they asked. I just don’t want to deal with the situation right then and usually the kids forget and don’t ask again (Yes, I know! My kids will be in therapy when they’re 30!).

Well, “later” to Brian this time was when we were clearing the dishes. He turned from the refrigerator with the ketchup bottle in hand, took aim, and shot Chris with ketchup in the chest.

Brian took one look at Chris’ face and bolted out of the kitchen screaming, “Dad you said I could get you back!” I grabbed my camera, shot a few pictures, looked at Chris’ face and then I bolted out of the kitchen! Chris started laughing and immediately started plotting his revenge.
I have to say that Brian had more ketchup on his shirt than Chris did. So in all fairness, Brian deserves another shot. Next time, make sure that the ketchup bottle is full, okay Bri? And make sure that you have your running shoes on.
